One year ago this month, Better Homes & Gardens Do It Yourself Magazine came to my house to photograph it!  I've been waiting impatiently excitedly ever since for the feature to come out.  And it is finally here!

When my copy arrived in the mail yesterday, I literally squealed with excitement...and my oldest laughed at me saying I sounded just as excited as I was when I first saw my book in a hard copy! Truth is, I am just as excited.  This is another one of those surreal dreams...those bucket list items that I can actually cross of my list!

31 Days of All Things Home: Brick Tile (This is Awesome!)~

I've mentioned before that I work as an interior designer for a home builder here in Utah.  Today, our tile rep came in to the office with some new samples, and I was so completely smitten with them that I wanted to share them with you!

They're called Chicago Brick and are manufactured by Mediterranea.  (This is NOT a sponsored post - these are just crazy awesome!)  And they are porcelain tiles that look like brick.

By now we've all heard of wood-look tile.  I love the stuff.  Well, Chicago Brick is the same idea only it looks like brick - obviously (lol!), and as soon as I saw it, my mind was positively spinning with the possibilities!

31 Days of All Things Home: Gratitude~

Welcome to day 21 of 31 Days of All Things Home!

Click on the button to see all of my 31 Days posts!

I had a hard time figuring out what to post about today.  You see, I have half-finished projects galore. My dining room is full of bins and boxes with swag and other fun stuff for the Decorating For Real Life book launch party on Thursday.  My basement is in the process of being painted.  Everything is a mess...but you know why?  Because I'm blessed.

I'm a type A personality.  Mess and clutter make me a little bit crazy.  So when I start to get overwhelmed by the less-than-organized home around me, I remember that all the craziness is the result of blessings.  It's true...

I have a new house.  I worked hard and bought the house all by myself.  I have a garage that is still full of boxes because I have stuff.  Yes, stuff...that I will be moving into the new house that I bought...by myself...because I worked hard.

I have a dining room full of boxes and bins with swag in them.  Swag that I am giving to people who are coming to celebrate my book launch.  Because I wrote a book.  And it got published.  (It's pretty crazy to type those words because it still seems surreal).

My dining room on a clean day.

I have half-finished projects all over the place because I am in the process of writing book number 2...while I am moving into my new house...that I bought...by myself...because I worked hard.

I have kid clutter everywhere because I have four beautiful children that make me crazy and happy and bursting-at-the-seams with love.

My favorite photo of  my kids. like. ever.

And so when I don't have anything to post about because my projects aren't finished and my house is a mess, I really do have something to post about...the blessings in my life.  They are real.  And I am grateful for them.

xoxo

Today I'm going to share with you my recent exciting discovery which you probably already know about and are gonna think I'm really slow.  But anyhoo....I was beyond excited to find out that several of my favorite HGTV shows are now available on Netflix.

Actually, I wasn't the one who discovered it.  My kids were.  Luckily, they know their mom well enough, that when they saw HGTV shows were available, they told me about it!

I just love Property Brothers - and Buying & Selling - which are both featured!

31 Days of All Things Home: I Love These New Sofas~

Welcome to day 19 of 31 Days of All Things Home!

Yesterday as I was scrolling through my Instagram feed, I saw something amazing.  (Okay, well, it was amazing to me anyway).  As they do every year at this time, IKEA has introduced a bunch of new products.  And this year, I'm absolute loving their new line of Stocksund sofas - like yesterday, this is not a paid post...just something I really want to share.

Check out this beauty..
Classic lines, tailored styling.  And of course, I love me some charcoal gray.  But it also comes in two other colors.

31 Days of All Things Home: Windows and Fireplaces~

One feature that our new house is lacking (that I really wish it had) is a fireplace.  So I have been dreaming about adding one in the future.  Personally, I really like the look of a fireplace with windows on either side, and that's what I'd really like to do at some point in the future.  For now, I'm just collecting inspiration photos. (Of course!)  And today I wanted to share some of them with you.

I pretty much love everything about the above photo...the wood storage under the window seats is perfection!

31 Days of All Things Home: Why I Bought A Move-In-Ready Home~

Welcome to Day 15 of 31 Days of All Things Home!

Today I wanted to share a little bit about why I bought a move-in-ready home.  As I have mentioned before, I work as an interior designer for the biggest home builder in the state of Utah, Ivory Homes. Ivory Homes is what is known as a production builder.  That means that they build  hundreds of homes every year (in the neighborhood of 700) and that the homes are built from set floor plans.

Hydeaway Cottage with the "for sale" sign in front of it.

Most builders - whether they are production or custom - build what are known in the business as spec homes, available homes, quick move-ins, or move-in ready homes.  Essentially, they are homes that are built by the company with the intention of selling them once they are built, rather than building them for a specific buyer.

I realize I'm kind of late to the party, but I'm currently really crushing on teepees and play tents.  My kids are almost too old for them...but not quite, so I'm thinking about making one before the opportunity passes me by.

Today I wanted to share some fun teepee/tent inspiration photos that I've been collecting...

31 Days of All Things Home: Gallery Walls~

Welcome to day 11 of 31 Days of All Things Home!

Click on the button to see all of my 31 Days posts!

I love gallery walls.  They have been a favorite of mine since I first created one on my bedroom wall in high school.  And I still adore them.  As I find myself deciding on art to hang here at Hydeaway Cottage, I am having to talk myself out of doing a gallery wall in just about every room.  Ha!

In order to satiate my love of gallery walls...I collect photos of them on Pinterest.  I actually have a board dedicated entirely to the art of the well-configured gallery wall.  And today, I wanted to share a few of them with you.
